KING SOLOMON'S DREAM

"In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night:  and God said, Ask what I shall give thee."

"And Solomon said, Thou has shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.  And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father, and I am but a little child  I know not how to go out or come in.  And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.  Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:  for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
"And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.  And God said, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the of thine enemies; but has asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words:  lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.  And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour:  so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.  And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
"And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream.  And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants."  (1st Kings 3: 5-15)

KING SOLOMON'S WISDOM:
Three of the books of wisdom of the Bible were written by King Solomon:
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and The Song of Solomon.
"I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.  And I gave my heart to seek and search all things that are done under the heaven:  this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith."  (Ecclesiastes 1: 12-13)
In these three books, God fulfilled His promise in the life of King Solomon:
"...I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart;"
These three books are more than worthy to be read and studied many times.  Not only do they reveal the mindset of King Solomon, but they can also become part of our individual mindsets if we will glean from them the wisdom of God.

KING SOLOMON'S WEALTH:
"Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold; beside that which chapmen and merchants brought.  And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
"And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.  And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.  And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, harness, and spices, horses and mules, a rate by year."  (2nd Chronicles 9: 13-14; 22-24)
In gold alone, King Solomon received 25 tons per year for the 40 years that he reigned as King of Israel for a net total of $65 million per year; and his financial portfolio at the end of his days was $2.1 trillion in today's calculations, making him the wealthiest man to ever live on planet earth.
Not only did the kings of the earth come to Jerusalem "to hear his wisdom that God had put in his heart," but they also brought their treasures and laid them at Solomon's feet.
"For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol:  and his fame was in all nations round about.  And he spake three thousand proverbs:  and his songs were a thousand and five.  And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall:  he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of  creeping things, and of fishes.  And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom."  (1st Kings 4: 30-34)
King Solomon's dream was more than a dream.  All he asked God for was this:
"Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:"  (1st Kings 3: 9)
King Solomon's life is a testimony of the faith he had in God:
"But without faith it is impossible to please him:  for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."  (Hebrews 11: 6)
   God certainly rewarded King Solomon.
