JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM

Ezekiel 5: 5 "Thus saith the Lord God,

This is Jerusalem:  I have set it in
the midst of the nations
and countries that are round about her."

The word "Jerusalem" is used 806 times in the Bible, for there is no city under heaven that is more important to God than Jerusalem.
According to the Jewish Midrash, Jerusalem has 70 names, including City of Peace.
But Jerusalem has not always been a city of peace. Throughout her history, Jerusalem has been destroyed at least two times, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.
The temple of God in Jerusalem has been destroyed two times, and, ever since 70 A.D., Jerusalem has been without a temple of God.
Jerusalem could also be called the City of Kings, for she has had 44 kings.

Genesis 14: 18 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine:  and he was the priest of the most high God."

Psalm 122: 3-4  "Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:  whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD."

Psalm 125: 2  "As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth and even for ever."

Isaiah 62: 1  "For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness thereof, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth."

Jeremiah 3: 17  "At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem:  neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart."

Zechariah 12: 9-10  "And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.  And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications:  and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

Matthew 23: 37  Jesus said, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gatherest her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"

Luke 23: 28  "But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children."

Psalm 48: 2  "Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, in the sides of the north, the city of the great King."
