After the resurrection of Christ, the Lord knew where the disciples were hiding, for it is written:
"the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews...." (John 20: 19)
For fear of the Jews?
Yes. The disciples were living in fear of the Jews and not the Romans.
Please remember that it was the religious leaders of Israel who killed Jesus: the Romans were simply the executioners.
Therefore, after the resurrection and ascension of Christ, the Jewish leaders went after the disciples and apostles to also kill them: to stop them from talking about Jesus.
In those days, there was no such ideology as freedom of religion or freedom of speech with protection guaranteed by a state constitution. Moreover, the Roman Empire was a beast and a government of pagans.
Knowing that this is true, the disciples and apostles were as small fish in a sea of sharks. Therefore, they operated in secrecy in order to protect their lives: they talked in secrecy, they travelled in secrecy, and they met in secret places to worship God.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6: 12)
Religion has produced a killing field of Christians that has extended across two thousand years; therefore, we should be able to believe and understand that religion is a house of murder.
According to Christian Today, 70 million Christians have been martyred since the time Jesus walked on the earth; yet, not one person has ever been prosecuted for the murder of Christians in the first degree.
Moreover, there has never been a global war such as the war against Christians, a war that most people never notice. These killings are usually not noticed because they are conducted in silence and in secrecy in the exact same manner that the Jewish priesthood killed Jesus in Jerusalem.
Even before Jesus went to the cross, He warned us:
"They shall put you out of the snyagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." (John 16: 2-3)
But Jesus also said something else that is easy to miss:
"He that hateth me hateth my Father also." (John 15: 23)
Beginning with Nimrod at the tower of Babel, religion has always been the throne of Almighty Man because man wants to be a god on earth ruling over people.
Obviously, we should be able to understand that the house of religion is responsible for the murder of more people on the earth than any nation, any kingdom, any empire, or any army under the sun. And the killing will continue until Christ returns and puts His foot down.
"Even so, come Lord Jesus." (Revelation 22: 20)
