THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

But they that be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.  For the love of money is the root of all evil:  which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  (First Timothy 6: 9-10)

By itself, gold is not evil.  But when men get their hands on it, their hearts turn within them and they believe they can rule the world, which is precisely what they have done:  for the wealthiest people in the world today control the money, which has enabled them to control the world.
By itself, money is not evil.  But when people fall in love with money, their minds and their hearts become corruption centers for greed, jealousy, envy, and division of people in social classes, so that poor people are servants to the rich, and poor people are the foot soldiers of war.
The love of money reveals the pride of people, the pride of nations, the pride of religions, and the pride of churches.
We build houses, and we build bigger houses.
We build sports arenas, and we build bigger arenas.
We build houses for state governments, and we build bigger state houses.
We build temples and shrines, and we build bigger temples and shrines.
We build cathedrals, and we build bigger cathedrals.
We build churches, and we build bigger churches.
We pray for better jobs with more money, and when we get the better jobs with more money we lavish ourselves with more and more possessions.
The love of money says, Look at me!  Look at what I have done.  Look at my house with my manicured lawn, paved driveway, and multiple cars in the garage.  Look at my closets full of clothes and my pantries overrunning with food.  When I walk by, people know me and offer me the chair.
The love of money closes the hearts of people to the needs of others.  While the wealthy get wealthier, their hearts are consumed with a fire and the heads of others become no more than stepping stones to a higher seat of greater power.  They are not concerned with the trail of blood they leave behind.
A world in love with money has produced a world of evil.  Terrorism is reaching across oceans and the chatter of war is in the air, so that violence is coming to every nation in a way that people have never seen before.  This faucet of evil is running and no person on earth can turn it off.
What, then, shall we do in this world that is filled with evil?
We must trust in God by faith and believe that He knows best what is best for us.  Therefore, place your faith in Christ Jesus and not in money, nor in the riches of this world; for this world will pass away and all of the money will disappear.
Remember, too, that God does bless people with money, at certain times and in certain ways; but the devil also blesses people with money while deceiving them to believe that this blessing is from God.  Your attitude will be revealed when money touches your hands.  If your desire is to share, then your heart will be right with God.  But if your heart compels you to cling to the money, then your heart will become a house of evil.
