The iPhone reveals the hearts of people unlike any invention that we have created on the face of the earth.
Selfie pictures send first, followed by pictures of pets, possessions, and vacation getaways.
Photographs of babies and children playing send last.
The global baby food market will reach an estimated $55 billion by 2015; yet, in the United States, Americans spent $56 billion in 2013 for pet food and pet supplies.
Are the things we value the most simply things, and animals, and collections of toys?
Or is my iPhone all about me and my little world?
In my little world, do I think I am the big cheese? And do I want everybody to know it?
And it came to pass when Jesus said unto His disciples:
Whom do men say that I am? (Mark 8:27)
In my little world, whom do men say that I am?
In my lifetime, only a few hundred people have ever seen my face.
Out of that number, only a few have shaken my hand, or asked my name.
Out of that number, only a few have shared a meal with me, or chatted over a cup of coffee.
Out of that number, not one has ever known that my favorite color is blue.
Out of that number, most of them have never seen my face again.
So then, whom do men say that I am? They cannot say because most of them: never knew me.
Jesus also said, Love thy neighbor as thyself. (Mark 12: 31)
In my little world, how can I love my neighbor if I never see his face?
How can I love my neighbor if I never shake his hand, or ask his name?
How can I love my neighbor if I never share a meal, or chat over a cup of coffee?
How can I love my neighbor if I never know his favorite team is the Yankees?
How can I love my neighbor if I never see his face again?
How can I love my neighbor if I never know him?
In my little world, I am no larger than a dot at the end of a sentence. In my mind, however, I can believe that I am the center of the universe, and that people will be absolutely delighted when they see my face appear on an iPhone. Yet, whom do they say that I am?
If we believe a picture is worth a thousand words, do people have a thousand words for a photograph they see of me?
Not likely. Not when my little world is all about me and the things I value most: my pets, my possessions, and my vacation getaways. Not when my iPhone is all about me.
To know me is to know my heart. If you never know my heart you will never know me. The same can be said about you about me.
If we, therefore, are to know Christ, we must come to know His heart. But if not, then we will never know Him; for all that many people will ever know about Jesus is a graven image on an iPhone.
