And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. (I Kings 19: 11-12)
Television news cameras follow noise: damages from strong winds, earthquakes, fires, tornados, typhoons; rapes, murders, protest marchings, and scandals.
People who make the most noise get the most attention.
In families, the child that makes the most noise gets the most attention.
A sports team can have the chemistry for winning: except for one player, who causes disunity, disrupts the team, and gets attention because of his noise.
The birth of Jesus Christ was a silent event, not noisy; for even King Herod did not know that Messiah was in Israel until messengers of God delivered the news to Herod's door---two years later!
The resurrection of Jesus was also a silent event, not noisy.
From Jerusalem to the United States, Christians moved in silence---never noisy---as they told others about the Good News of Christ, and churches multiplied.
In the 20th century, however, something happened that changed the way Christians delivered the message of the Lord: the Age of Electronics was invented and, for the first time, the message of Jesus entered the arena of the Age of Noise with microphones, loud speakers, electronic instruments, drums, radio and television---thus producing a New Era of Christianity, which became Electronic Evangelism.
Thus, with the rise of microphones, loud speakers, electronic musical instruments and drums, the age of noisy music moved within Christian churches, which has---perhaps more than in any other way--done more to damage churches across America than from any other form of infiltration; which has, in turn, aided the rise of the Age of Apostasy: the turning away from Christ and the turning to Satan.
Even so, as we learn from the pages of God's Word, the LORD is not in the wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire; and neither is the LORD in the noise of noisy music; for the LORD continues to speak in a still small voice.
Please remember, therefore, that when noise increases, Christ decreases; and the louder noisy music increases, the further Christ moves in the opposite direction.
To know Christ, keep your ear tuned to His still small voice.
Amen.
