The difference in knowing the knowledge of God and knowing the knowledge of this world is found in the words we feed to our minds.
The Word of the Lord speaks to us from the pages of the Bible.
The words of people speak to us from the writings of people, such as the words in history books, philosophies, science, newspapers, sports journals, and also comic books.
The words of a friend, written in a letter, speak to us from the mind of the writer.
We can also experience the emotions of the writers, such as pain, excitement, heartaches and heart breaks, loneliness, desperation, boredom, futility, anger, joy and hope, which are revealed in the voices of the speakers.
If we listen carefully, too, we can hear the voice of the writer, speaking to us from the pages of written words, which includes the voice of the Lord in the Bible, the voice of a friend in a letter, and the voices of strangers in writings by people whom we have never met.
We can also distinguish the difference between the voices of men, the voices of women, and the voices of children as all of these voices speak to us from the pages of written words.
Therefore, we can believe that words have power and words have influence, for all the words that we read speak to our minds, no matter the source from whence they come, and our words will also speak to others when others read our written words.
Reading the Bible is the beginning of knowing the knowledge of God, and the words of God are living words: beginning with creation, but also found in the lives of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden:
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. (Genesis 3: 8)
Isaiah the prophet explains the words of God in this way:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isaiah 55: 8-11)
What words, then, do you feed your mind: the words of the Lord, or the words of the world? For the words you feed your mind will be the words you live by; and the words you feed your mind will also be the words you die by.
Jesus said,
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. (Matthew 24: 35)
The words of this world will pass away, and if you are standing on the words of this world those words will collapse beneath your feet and you will be standing in sinking sand.
But if you will stand on the promises of God, you will be standing on holy ground, for the words of the Lord are holy words: leading you to inherit eternal life, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Now when Jesus was born Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. (Matthew 2: 1-2)
